News - 20 July 2023

The release of the horror film The Curse of La Llorona in 2019 marked its inclusion as the sixth installment in The Conjuring Universe, which was established by director, writer, and producer James Wan. However, after four years, it has been clarified by director Michael Chaves that The Curse of La Llorona is not actually part of the series at all. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Chaves addressed the confusion surrounding the film's connection to The Conjuring Universe.

Chaves expressed, "There has been a lot of discussion about this, and I believe I may have been unclear about it in the past." The Curse of La Llorona, with a production budget of $9 million, managed to gross $123.1 million at the global box office.

Chaves explained that the intention was for the Annabelle cameo to be a subtle detail that viewers could discover while watching the movie. He also revealed that one of the reasons why the film couldn't formally be included in The Conjuring Universe is because Peter Safran, the main producer of the series, was not involved in The Curse of La Llorona.Chaves acknowledged, "The Conjuring is Peter's and James's baby, and they are the main producers of the franchise.

" He went on to direct The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, another installment in The Conjuring Universe. Safran confirmed that The Curse of La Llorona stands alone as a separate entity from the main Conjuring series. He stated, "The film is not officially part of The Conjuring Universe.

However, I believe Chaves did an excellent job with the movie, which is why we decided to incorporate elements of it into our universe."Chaves is set to release The Nun II, which is a part of The Conjuring Universe, in the coming months. The Nun II will mark the ninth film in the larger Conjuring series and the eighth installment overall.
