Gladiator 2 Production Paused Due to Strike in Morocco, Ridley Scott Pushes Forward with Exciting Sequel Plans and Impressive Cast

News - 9 November 2023

Ridley Scott recently revealed in an interview with The New Yorker that production on Gladiator 2 was halted in Morocco due to an actors' strike. Despite this setback, Scott has managed to edit 90 minutes of the film and plans to resume filming once the strike is over. In the meantime, he is utilizing the footage he already has to keep the project moving forward.

One of the scenes that Scott is particularly excited about is a sequence in which the protagonist, played by Paul Mescal, faces off against a group of aggressive baboons. This scene was inspired by an incident Scott witnessed in Johannesburg, where baboons were attacking tourists. Scott remarked, "Baboons are carnivores.

Can you hang from that roof with your left leg for two hours? No! But a baboon can."Gladiator 2 boasts an impressive cast that includes Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, Connie Nielsen, Derek Jacobi, Djimon Hounsou, Matt Lucas, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, and Pedro Pascal. While the exact plot of the sequel has been kept under wraps, it has been revealed that the story will focus on the adult version of Lucius, played by Mescal, and will feature appearances from familiar characters such as those portrayed by Nielsen, Hounsou, and Jacobi.

The film is set in a time where brothers Caracalla and Geta, played by Quinn and Hechinger, respectively, reign as co-emperors. Caracalla is depicted as a ruthless dictator who orders the assassination of his own brother, Geta. Gladiator 2, a Paramount Pictures production, is slated for release on November 22, 2024.

Despite the challenges faced during filming, Ridley Scott remains committed to delivering a thrilling and captivating sequel to the beloved original film. As fans eagerly await the release of Gladiator 2, they can rest assured that Scott's visionary storytelling and stellar cast will make it a cinematic experience to remember.
